About the BSSG
The purpose of the Boroondara Stroke Support Group is to provide a venue for stroke survivors and carers of any age residing in Boroondara to share their personal experience and expand their social contacts.
Mission Statement:
To encourage stroke survivors, their carers and family members to confidently enjoy life after a stroke through mutual emotional support and the common provision of information, communication and education.
The Group facilitates regular meetings, social outings, and excursions and also encourages members to take an active role in the administration of the Group.
The Boroondara Stroke Support Group has also initiated a number of special programs to nurture members back to mainstream activities in the community.
The Boroondara Stroke Support Group would like to acknowledge the support it has received from various community organisations in the City of Boroondara, particularly the Inner East Community Health Service and the Hawthorn Community Chest.
Orchid as the Symbol of Stroke
The BSSG has adopted the Orchid as the Symbol of Stroke.
The orchid has a traditional flower meaning of Love, Beauty and Refinement. However, its charm belies a resilience and toughness that had withstood the challenges to its survival over millenia.
A stroke survivor who is travelling along the stroke recovery journey would have endured frequent hardships and obstacles. Yet the survivor can still rebound with cheerfulness and buoyancy. Like an orchid, the survivor's refinement and charm belies the resilience and toughness endured.
